瑞奇·鲍比是注定一辈子要与赛车结缘的人，他父亲当年就是为了寻求赛车梦而抛妻弃子，母亲又把他生在了车箱内，虽然鲍比太太不想他一生都驾在汽车轮胎上，但他对赛车的热爱却胜过一切。起初瑞奇只是在赛事中的一名工作人员，为懒惰的赛车手特里做助理，在一次激烈的比赛当中，特里居然在车里候狼吞虎咽的吃起了汉堡，情急之下瑞奇跳进车内，开始了瑞奇·鲍比的传奇一生。瑞奇很快成为世界顶级的F1赛车手，他为了任何一场大赛都不惜任何代价，屡屡夺冠，成为全国英雄。同时他也拥有了一切：性感的娇妻卡利、临湖的豪华公寓，两个调皮可爱的儿子，和强有力的签约公司做后盾。尤其还有几个死忠的FANS，那是一个以路奇乌斯为主的三人组，他们虽然有的时候显得幼稚甚至低能，但却是瑞奇最忠坚的粉丝团。

一个接一个的胜利，瑞奇迎来了赛车人生的辉煌期，瑞奇那位“赚每一分钱”的教练让他成为一名国际性的英雄。但好景不长，一场可怕的车祸把瑞奇送进了医院。在返回赛车场，他并没有从状态中走出来，瑞奇发现自己完全失去了斗智和勇气，他甚至害怕坐在全速疾驶的赛车当中，更别说去参加比赛了，而这个时候，声名显赫的F1赛车手让·杰拉德向他发出挑战书，大赛即将来临，而瑞奇却无法战胜自己的心魔。

鲍比太太为了帮助儿子，不得不找到一个惟一可以帮助他的人--他疏远的父亲，这位老家伙虽然已经不再是一名赛车手，但仍然还有些小窍门可以让瑞奇克服他驾驶的恐惧，那就是让他与一头美洲狮同车驾驶。

出生在马里兰州的巴尔的摩，大卫原本想要进军音乐界。但他第一份娱乐圈的工作是在CBS 的肥皂剧《The Young and the Restless》中饰演史奈波佛斯特医生。六年后他被NBC相中主演《霹雳游侠》。这部影集让他获得民选奖最受欢迎演员奖，并且到目前为止，在全世界超过82个国家播映过。1989年他领衔主演《海岸救生队》，之后这个节目被NBC腰斩，但赫索霍夫和他的三位伙伴取得版权。他们变成影集的监制，也因此成为电视史上的第一人。到今天为止，《海岸救生队》的重播还能在全世界超过140个国家看得到，每周的观众超过十亿。
